Our Puerto Rican Story
Jayleen was born into a Puerto Rican military family, where great food and family gatherings were a way of life. Her mother, Myrna, was the heart of every party—always in the kitchen, always feeding a crowd. When Jayleen met Jesse—an award-winning chef with a passion for Latin flavors—she joked that Myrna could learn new cooking techniques from Jesse. Myrna, however, had her own opinion: after decades in the kitchen, she insisted she’d be teaching Jesse a thing or two! In truth, both have learned from each other, blending their knowledge and love for Puerto Rican food.
When Jayleen joked that her mom might pick up a few cooking tips from Jesse, Myrna quickly set her straight (in Spanish, of course!): “I’ve been cooking longer than he’s been alive—if anything, I’ll be teaching him!” In reality, they’ve all learned from one another. Jesse’s love for Puerto Rican food grew thanks to Myrna’s recipes and several delicious trips to the island, where he tasted everything he could get his hands on (tough job, but someone had to do it!).

At JesseJay’s, we prepare a variety of Puerto Rican favorites, all made from scratch with fresh ingredients and house-made marinades and sauces:
Mofongo: Smashed plantains with roasted garlic or creole tomato sauce, served with your choice of protein.
Rice and Red Beans: Puerto Rican comfort food at its best.
Tostones: Crispy twice-fried green plantains, served with homemade mayo-ketchup.
Maduros: Sweet, caramelized ripe plantains.
Yuca Frita: Golden fried cassava tossed in garlic butter, served with mayo-ketchup.
Carne Frita (Pork Chunks): Juicy, perfectly seasoned pork bites.
Churrasco: Marinated grilled skirt steak with house-made chimichurri.
Chillo Frito: Whole fried red snapper, served with tostones and side salad.
